View Full Version : CCA grill badge on E46 M3C, yes or no?
Going through my mental list of things to do, most of which are just pain in the ass licensing and registration stuff, this question popped into my head.
Thoughts?

I have one on my X5. Was thinking of moving that one over, where it better belongs.

One of you should put it on the M3, and one of you should not, just so I know who I'm waving at when I'm in the DC area. :)

LOL
Sure, why not? I had one on my E46. Haven't put one on the E90 only because getting access to the grille is a PITA.

Meh.
Umm, I wouldn't do it (but depends if you have warm memories/associations with the cca). Kind of a dorky thing to do...

I associate that kind of thing with 70's and older Benzes.

I would.
I do as well on my own BMW's.
Well... I do to a point. I need to order another one now that I think of it.
You could also do the more discrete window decal....
That may be appropriate for you - depending on how you feel about how it looks.
Too many BMW's.
Three badges for four cars.
(You can even see one on my 2002 below...)
Meh.

If your goal is to strike up random conversation with other CCA members while getting out of the car in the Walmart parking lot, then maybe. Otherwise, nobody on the road is likely to notice or care.

My notion, perhaps mistaken, is that it might get you a little more attention in the service bay. And that it might indicate to others in the know that you actually understand what you're driving. Plus, my CCA membership has paid for itself many times over--in rebates and in discounts on parts purchases.
For what it's worth, I have always thought it kind of identifies you as a long-time BMW enthusiast. With all of the badge buyers out there, I've been inclined to want to self-identify as not being one of them.

I had my small CCA sticker on the side rear window.
Yeah, I agree with the rough consensus... small sticker on window maybe, badge no.

Another alternative is license plate holders...

Personally, I strongly dislike license plate frames of any kind.

Do you just mount the plates without holders?

What do you mean by "holder"? I mount the rear plate directly to the unpainted metal rectangular platform that the screws screw into. If I do the front plate, I screw it onto the front plate bracket.
The M3C does not have a front plate bracket installed and the bumper is not drilled. I do not plan to change that. I never ran a front plate on my E36 M3 or on my E90 330i and never had a problem.

I see. Our car has a front holder with a VOB slug in it now.
I have the CCA license plates, although I'm not really sure why.

Am I the only one stuck on the irony of the above? :eeps:
Bmwcca members (myself included) are the ultimate badge buyers: They've even gone to the length of forming a group around their badge.
:worshipb:
I have plain black frames around my plates... no free advertising. I just like the look better than completely unframed plates. :dunno:

Yes to the plain black license plate frame.
No to the grille badge.
But it's kinda up to you, isn't it, TD?

Yup. Just getting opinions. And I'm not really swayed one way or the other at this point.
I do tend to think they look more appropriate on older BMWs. But is an E46 "older" at this point?
I had never even thought about the license plate frame before this thread. I'll have to look into it.

The CCA license plate frames are pretty heinous looking. Wondering about M3 frames, but all seems so showy. Can't wait to get the VOB blank off the front...
Just got new mats in grey to match the interior, courtesy of VOB. The former owner must have driven in high heels all the time, because the driver's mat (in black) was gouged to hell.
Fortunately I had kept the cargo net from my sedan, so that's coming in handy.

The E46 M3 is certainly not lacking in ///M3 logos from the factory.

Exactly. BTW, just saw an X6M on the street today. Yeesh.
Edit: maybe I should go the other way and debadge the M3C.

not the best pic but $5 pep boy license plate frame, matches the shadowline trim on the side pretty well. Enought ///M badges for me.

I have it on the X3 and have received comments from other CCA members while at the gas station or in the grocery store parking lot.

What's wrong with the secret handshke sticker?
You cut out fot US map from the CCA sticker, put it in the driver rear window.
I was told that's how it was done way back in the day, and had it on my E46 M3.

That's what I did on my E46 as well. Always liked that it was a static vinyl sticker with no adhesive.

That's what I need. I don't put any kind of sticker on my cars.
Enough ///M badges for me.
Looks like there is still at least one more you can easily remove. ;)

Drive-by post as I've been busier than a one-legged River Dancer this year, and it won't let up for another month at least.
I always thought the grill badge looked like a booger. I know.....that was helpful. :)
I have no qualms about a small, unobtrusive window decal though.
As for the frame I also prefer the minimalist look.
I love the looks of the 135..

I go back and forth. Took my deposit back when I saw it in person. The one thing I can't get beyond is the melted side look.
But I have to say the way Mike has his spec'ed is hot.
