2000 BMW 328Ci, taken yesterday at my gym.
I know it sucks, don't complain to me. I am proud that I finally got it washed.

The picture of the p-car was taken a couple of weeks ago. All the snow is gone now and I have my permanent plates.
The Mini and the BMW were photographed during snowmaggeddon.

I was actually (briefly) in Connecticut for the first time ever last week. I bet the countryside is very pretty in the summer when things are green.

Some shameless CT is beautiful stuff, from trees to beaches, and Porches (this is a car forum after all:)) - these are from up and down the western corridor (alongside NY state) and along the shore.

This was my son's first open-topped Jeep ride. We just went around
the block but when we pulled back into the driveway he kept saying "more! more!"
so we headed out again for another 15 minute drive. During the drive he'd
randomly giggle, laugh, throw his hands up in the air and kept
repeating "Jeep! Jeep! Jeep!".

I don't think internet access has anything to do with it. When you open your camera, it asks you if it can use your current location. If you click okay, then it will record the GPS data. If you click Don't Allow, it won't.

I can't recall if it asked me the first time I used the iPhone camera, but it certainly does not ask every time that you open the program.

Now that the weather has warmed up sufficiently to get some traction in the M5 I am really, really, really loving that car. I was a little afraid to drive it over the winter on the summer tires, but the last two weeks have opened my eyes to its capabilities. It's nice too that the M3 feels different enough to be a pleasant switch, especially with the top down (It hit 63F earlier this week and I got to convert for a bit).

Even though Nate's pic suffers from garage lighting, it's taken from a height level with the car and the entire vehicle is in the frame.
And if stuka wanted to show off the new bumpers, maybe they should be visible in the pic and not buried in the shadows.

I've been running without caps for almost a year now. The little plastic clips that hold the circular spring thingy broke on all of my caps so none of the them would stay in. I did get replacements, but have just never gotten around to putting them in. Now I'm kinda used to the look of them without the caps.

Nice color combo. The 90's are far enough away where its cool again.
I'm still not over the '90s and the dark green cars. But I'll wait to see it either in better pictures or in person.

I don't see it as a camera or lens problem. Looks to me like a combination of wrong focus point, relatively wide open aperture (shooting at f5 your depth of field is going to make it difficult to get all of a car in focus) and some camera shake.
Nice rides btw!
Alex
EDIT: try the same shots at f8 and set your camera's AF for a single point instead of the multiple points, jack up your iso a bit so that your shutter speed doesn't fall below say 1/250, and i bet your shots are in focus.

Actually, the lens is acting up. It's my 18-200. Even in my kitchen just now, I can't get it to focus on objects I've set out. It keeps going from one stop to the other and won't find focus.
It was acting weird when I was taking the shots, but it was acting like it was finding focus. And some of the shots are pretty close. But now it won't find focus at all.
Switch to the crappy kit lenses that came with the camera and there's no problem.

If he was using only a single AF point, and that point was on one of the completely black areas, then it would be very difficult to lock focus. There has to be a decent amount of contrast for a good focus lock.

That's cool.

Actually, the lens is acting up. It's my 18-200.
Check this thread out (http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikon_18-200_vr/discuss/72157604812437107/). Apparently there is a common problem with the lens that has a pretty easy at-home fix that I didn't know of until now. If that's not the issue...
Consider sending in to Nikon. If it's under 5 years old (and US market), it should still be under warranty. They'll fix or replace. If they fix, they'll also recalibrate, check everything and fix anything else that's wrong. What you get back is essentially a "brand new" refurb. Even if it's not under warranty, send it in. If it's cheap enough to be worth fixing, they'll do all the same stuff as if it were under warranty, but only charge you the tier price of the major repair. If it doesn't make economic sense to fix, they'll probably offer you a decent discount on buying a new one.
The biggest complaint I (and most others) have with their service is that wait time can be long. It often isn't, but you just don't know until it's done. It's been a slightly bigger problem since the earthquake because their parts supplies have been constrained, but it sounds like things are getting back to normal.

I think the shot would be 10x better if you just had a different focal point...like the skull and crossbones on the closest bike. I'd probably even open up the aperture a little more to reduce the DOF.
For something like this, though, do it a bunch of ways. Only takes a minute to take the pics, doesn't cost any extra, and then you can take some more time at editing to figure out which ones you like better and why...then apply those lessons next time, repeat, repeat, repeat. :)

Does Nikon have something similar to Canon's CPS, and do you own enough stuff to qualify?
I'm less than an hour's drive from one of the 2 Canon USA repair facilities, and they have a dedicated entry / lounge / counter / repair facility for CPS members. All the service I've had done there, I just waited for an hour or so while they did it, and then got it back (free) and went on my merry way.
There's no charge unless they have to replace a major component (lens element, motor, and so on). Stuff like disassembly, cleaning, replacing the O-rings, and so on is free (each year I receive a booklet with coupons for free service - more than I ever use). I think this is to prevent people from dropping off everything they own to be cleaned.
A couple years ago, they fixed the lens that I dropped during the close encounter in the woods with the bear:
http://www.tmk.com/transient/Bimmerfest%20Trip%202004/040503%20-%20Sequoia%20Park/images/6F5S3305.jpg
on the way back from Bimmerfest 2004. The lens still worked, it just made unhappy grinding noises.
Last year, I had a different lens (the "bicycle pump" 100-400 IS) cleaned as it is always sucking in crud, as well as the sensor cleaned and a general check-out on one of the 1D bodies.
The price for CPS membership is really nominal - I think it's around $200/year. The real cost is in acquiring sufficient equipment to qualify . Plus, you have to have credited work appear in media.

Yes, I did a stupid thing, I was with my wife at a local fair, and rather than hold her up (and she wasn't complaining), I took just one quick shot. Too bad because the lighting and the set up was perfect.
I thought, later, about different DOF's and came upon the idea you're suggesting, however, I didn't think of the skull and crossbones bike as the focal point. Thanks for the tip - I think you're quite right though, it's a good idea to shoot it a few different ways, how can you lose.

Nikon has Nikon Professional Services, but they try to limit membership to people making their living with Nikon produts. Owning a few pro bodies and lenses with a few tear sheets isn't always enough. It offers a lot, but they're pretty tight about who can get in.

If I had a nickel for every time I got it totally wrong in the field and saw the solution as soon as I saw the image on my computer screen...
Focusing on the one bit of color in that shot definitely wasnt a mistake, and I would have done the same thing. Hopefully, I would have taken one like I suggested...but probably not. This, I think is the real trick to becoming a photographer...figuring out what to shoot when you're there. Becoming a good photographer takes it a step further. You get there when you skip all thhe shots that would be less than the best. ;)

So true, and I'd add it's the true goal of any artistic endeavor - trying to get it right as you're doing it.
I've worked with many musicians who never got that message - they'd lay down a million tracks of garbage, then sort through it, for weeks on end, trying to make an "arrangement". It's the old "throw it against the wall and see what sticks" mentality.
I've finally gotten to a good place in my professional life, getting to that core fairly quickly, but with photos, I've got a ways to go. As you know, every "mistake" is an excellent learning tool - in fact, I'll be so bold as to say, missing the shot I could've had with the motorcycles has made me an even better photographer than had I gotten "lucky" ;)
Lately though, all I've been doing is photographing cats for our shelter's website adoption ads - lots of black cats at that, if you ever want a challenge

I don't know. There are a couple of substantially sized pieces of white shit on the windshield that just make the whole thing look wrong.

I can't help with the registration / inspection sticker, but I do still have the EZ-Pass blackout kits available. I don't know if I have any of the die-cut self-adhesive felt pieces left, but I do have sheets of adhesive felt and the black 3M Dual Lock (that's the official EZ-Pass fastener, only in black instead of clear). Makes it almost invisible if your pass is mounted above the AS-1 line - about as visible as the rain sensor module.
I hate the inspection sticker. Stupid in this day and age. Cops should be able to run the plates for inspection status.
I don't really give a crap about the EZ pass though. I just can't get that anal anymore. I placed it where I don't see it from the driver's seat. That's good enough for me.

My lens is due to arrive back from Nikon today. Still don't know exactly what happened to it to make the AF stop working. But a few weeks and ~$110 later it's fixed.

They usually aren't very explicit, which can be kind of annoying. Glad it worked out well so far and hope it continues.
