Not without redoing our bathroom first. If it was half the price I could probably make a case for it.

late model Porsche with accident history = not a good buy

looks nice though... I just wouldn't buy THAT one.

It is a little loud, don't you think?

Mr. The Edge

Loud as hell, part of the appeal :D

It wouldn't be a daily driver (too loud for that), just a fun garage queen, so loud is OK. Too much $$$ for a garage queen, though. Also, didn't notice the accident report at first.

I Really don't like the rims, but that would not prevent me from buying the car. But, info on the crash reports might prevent me

It's a GT3 wannabe. I'm all for the body kit, but GT3-specific sills, etc? Meh.

I hadn't focused on the fact that it wasn't a real GT3, though I did sort of wonder about the rear seats.

Yes, fake cars are stupid. This is no different that a 325 with an M3 bodykit and badges.

I didn't really bother looking at the car. I've learned the hard way that "Porsche with any type of bodywork = HUGE decrease in value and very hard to sell" so I didn't bother looking closely after I saw the accident indicator.

Very true. To be honest, my initial glance at it told me it was a GT3. The rear seats should have given it away. However, I still would love it, but I would definitely debadge it.

This is one of the things that is bad about owning a Porsche. You become a complete paranoiac about such things.

A Porsche is just in a different category of cars when it comes to that stuff.

On mainstream cars (Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc.) paintwork is not a big deal as long as it is quality work and the car has no "stories"...

On a luxury car (BMW, MB, Audi, etc.) it makes a difference, the car will be worth less than one without repairs but it is not a major issue as long as the car was repaired correctly and has no "stories"...

On a late model high-end car (Porsche and all the super expensive stuff) it can be the kiss of death. I've literally seen the cleanest cars sell for thousands less because they had one body panel painted. And I've seen buyers at the auction that are very "hot" for a car do a quick walk around, notice the slightest bit of paint work, and just turn and walk away from a car and not give it another moment of consideration. Even had the GM of my Porsche store look at a car for me a few times that he was initially very interested, and as soon as he noticed some paint work he would give me back the key and say "sorry, not interested."

Don't get too worried, I don't think it is as big of a problem on a Boxster/Cayman as it would be on a 911 Turbo/GT2/GT3 or something of that caliber. The Boxster/Cayman are a bit closer to the middle category that I described.

It actually presents a decent opportunity if you are buying used, don't really give a shit about it, and plan to keep the car for a while.

Other than the GT3 bodykit, the center mount exhaust pipes, the spoiler, the GT3 badges, and the steering wheel?

I'm not terribly trainspottery as far as GT3s go, I'll admit. I was taken in by the superficial stuff, at lease to the degree I cared, which was not much.

... and have for many years.

That's why some guy in his 30's can buy, say, a ten year-old 911 for peanuts ( or more accurately, what it's really worth, at least till the service costs add up) and hang with the middle-aged assholes (my peer group) that'll spend over a 100k for a new and improved VW beetle AKA 911 only to flaunt it around town and say things at club meets like "it handles like it's on rails" while they proceed to drive 'em off cliffs or into stone walls.

A week doesn't go buy up here where some kind of "exotic" isn't driven into something.

If I were prez I'd do two things: pass a mandatory driving test that would include Skip Barber-level instruction for ALL drivers.

And ... I'd enact a national spay and neuter program for all feral cats and dogs.

Health care would have to wait.

That car in the OP is perfect - it's a fake and "loud" and it's already been driven into something

The title of the ad says it's a 997 Carrera S. :dunno: Why would anyone advertise a GT3 as a Carrera S? And anyway, there was no 2006 GT3. It came out as a 2007 model.

IIRC, the body kit was a factory option, so no big deal. But again, badges, sills, etc...:ack:

Awesome, Ed... You are like the second coming of BoltJames, but it's true what you just said (a lot of what BJ said was true as well). It achieves all that is necessary for the minimum $$'s spent.

I have to get out of my hole and we have to get together for some drives again (and hopefully not drive into anything).

That would come in a package with an across-the-board increase in the speed limit by 15mph, right? :D

That'd be great, I miss you and Cara, perhaps I can get the mrs involved too :)
