Much of this board hates SUV's, love high HP sedans, and whack off to wagons with a stick..

Porche builds funky 4-door thingy that's fast and drives like a Porsche.... and it is almost universally hated.

Talk to me people. Are we all about looks and trendiness over function all of a sudden? Should we all buy SUV's now?

At this point, it does not.

Can't speak for everyone else but for me I'm looking for a combination of form AND function. A car needs both. I don't doubt the Panamera has the function down right. Porsche does that very well. It's the form that just hideous.

And I don't get the whole sport station wagon thing either. Well, I sort of get it but I don't get all excited over it.

The rear-wheel drive Porsche Panamera S is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Porsche's USA website says car is only available with PDK.

Heck I just read somewhere that Ferrari will no longer offer a traditional manual on any of their cars. It is definitely going the way of the dinosaur on the high end sports car.

-It's ass makes the bungle butt look like Jessica Alba's (or your nice derrier of choice)
-It's big and heavy
-It's WAY expensive.

How often do we extol the virtues of an S63 or a 750iL?

...right.

True. The Italia (458) will be DCT-only.

because it's fucking ugly.

Way uglier than E60 could ever aspired to be in Bangle's wildest dream.

Put down the crack pipe.

There isn't a sedan in production uglier than the E60, especially the E60 M5.

I stood next to a Panamera last week -- and it is an enormous vehicle.

But it looked better in person than in photos. Yes, the rear end is large and round, but I didn't find it nearly as ugly as I thought I would.

A good friend of mine had a chance to drive both the S and Turbo at a Porsche press event He absolutely loved driving it and was amazed at how light it felt -- and kept wondering where Porsche hid ~1000 lbs (its a 4000 lb car, but dives like a 3000 lb car). He also said that the S had sufficient power (400HP), and that the Turbo had too much power (500HP)...

He was also able to get his 6'2" cameraman in the seat behind him, and there was still plenty of legroom for both him (5'10") and cameraman ...

It's ugly. Its foolishly expensive for the performance it provides. There are many beautiful cars for the same price that are much more desirable. It's fun to bag on Porsche and high end cars b/c we can't afford them. Choose any or all of the above and you have some of the reasons.

I'll be honest, if I was swimming in cash, I'd buy one.

The white one we saw int he showroom at HBL looked impressive.

I'm sure I'm talking out of my ass because I can't fathom having enough money for either, but I think if I could swing a big $100K+ car, I'd just pony up for the Rapide.

Sad to say you are right, at least as far as the back is concerned.

I love the concept of this car, and the front and interior look pretty nice. It's just that rear end that looks off to me. I wish they had attempted to make a more traditional rear decklid.

i have had a few behind me now on the road --dunno if it's a good or bad thing, but the front looks very much like a c6 corvette. if they did not have that led white strip beneath each headlamp, i'd be 100% sure it was a c6.

seeing it on the road confirms to me that it is a huge car and that it's extremely badly styled.

i've no doubt that dynamically it's great and inside is okay. but really? compared to the out and about maseratis that i see, the bentleys and even the rolls i saw on the pike today, that panamera looks so ugly. i'd even buy an XF or the all-new XJ before buying that car.

at that pricepoint, it's all subjective, so yes, the styling would turn me away.

but people buy the cayenne.....
