Sad, very sad.

Which part? The part about car manufacturers chasing the bling market or the part about adding a lot of chrome?

Well, both really. But particularly the fact that customers will be able to check the "20-inch chrome wheels" option when they buy an Escalade. It's not sad that GM will offer them. It's sad that there is enough demand to warrant them doing it.

You can get dubs on an X5. Not chrome though.

:BIG sigh: True.

But at least the X5 is a reasonably good-handling vehicle. The same can't be said of an Escalade.

Whatever... clearly I'm not into bling.

Come on now. That 330i would certainly count as bling in some circles.

;)

While true, they are not chrome.

FWIW, the "stock" perf pack wheel/tire setup was an improvement at the Autox vs the SP setup.

if only BMW listened to their customers like GM is doing for theirs

What bonoboy said. They are chasing the market - i.e. listening to their customers. I'm not buying any of that crap, but the concept is also what brought us the CTS-V.

The Escalade handles just like what it is, btw. A very large, very powerful truck. It never pretended to be designed to handle well. I kind of respect it for what it is - an ostentatious display of wealth, often in bad taste.

On a side note, I have nothing against chrome done well. I will post the pictures of the MG polish job tonight - you will see what I mean.

In whose experience? :?

It's gratifying to see GM listening to their customers, but they should've done this years ago. I'm sure they'll sell plenty of dubs this way...but isn't this trend sort of peaking? :dunno:

Mine. Last year I used the M68's with Conti's that I bought as a winter wheel set. I used up the Contis until it was time to mount the blizzaks on.

Never underestimate the tackiness of the general American people. I mean, why are clear tailights still being put on new cars here? The big chrome bling is everywhere and shows no signs of abating. It seems to be spreading if you ask me; here in Oregon even MB's drive by older people have chromed up alloys...

i'd like to just add to this discussion that among the truly 'hip' people in this world (i am nowhere near this demographic), the new 7 series isn't called:

a BMW

a 7 series.

"cool".

it's called "the QUARTER TO EIGHT".

(seriously)

I wouldn't be surprised if the E60 M5 and the E90 M3 came with a 20" option

...and to add to the automotive urban dictionary, really large wheels (24"ish) are called "shaq feet".
