With their scopes aimed squarely at the upcoming Porsche Panamera (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/10/spy-shots-the-panamera-and-its-not-exactly-pretty/) and Mercedes-Benz CLS (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/18/officially-official-mercedes-benz-cls-gets-new-look/), BMW's M performance division is rumored to be working on their own four-door luxury GT for a 2010 launch. With its styling based heavily on the BMW Concept CS (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/22/details-emerge-about-bmws-new-flagship-sedan/) (pictured above), the platform for the new flagship will be shared with the new 7 Series. Under the hood, most expect to see a 6.0-liter V12 based on the current M5's V10, or a twin-turbocharged V8 like the one rumored for the next-gen M5. Even though both of those engines promise prodigious amounts of power, and the lightened chassis will be tuned for performance, BMW insists the new car will not be badged an M8. Regardless, we seem to recall that the lack of an M badge on the mid-90's BMW 850CSi didn't seem to deter enthusiasts.

Cool. Looks way better than the Panamera, even with the funky snout.

Just below the AM Rapide in looks. Probably above it in performant?

The grilles are horrendous. Another BMW styling flop.

I'd have to see it in the flesh before I make a final descision, but to my mind the Concept CS suffers from the fewest design issues of any of the Bangle era models. Not perfect, but better than most.

Making my judgement on pictures alone, there is nothing I dislike about the CS Concept (exterior).

I like it. Maybe just b/c I know what it's going to do to those 6 owners John mentioned, but I like it. If I could afford one, I would ask when I could put down my deposit. :) (ok, not really - I have no interest in only two doors)

you're in luck, rob, it's a four door.

yeah, so when I took a closer look at the pictures to investigate this four dourishness, I decided I really don't like it after all. In fact, it sort of makes me wonder what's worse - this or the X6? Where are the door handles? What's up with the funny lines? The nose doesn't look hideous from the view on the picture above so much, but how did they approve the straight on appearance?

Oh well. I am not the target market anyway - even if I could afford the probably price (and there is no way), I am sure it will be auto only and I would never spend that much on a run of the mill brand like BMW anyway. I mean, it has to approach the price of the baby Aston, doesn't it?
