it's highlighted at www.autoweek.com right now.

looks cool.

(and still cooler than a 5 series).

I'd rather be in a 5. More fun to drive, and BMW never scored on a test this badly:

ugh.....I can't believe it has IFS

Stupid Daimler ruining a tradition of off-road prowess to dumb it down for the soccer moms.

first: this is an all new vehicle. not the old chassis.

second: i'm sure it's still rubicon worthy.

third: how many g.cherokee owners do you know take 'em off road?

fourth: compare that to how many x5's off road?

fifth: much better dollar/performance value than an x5 or e-uberwagen or 5 series.

1:it is an all new vehicle....but it is already called Durango

2:Daimler has said they are abandoning the Jeep tradition of testing on the rubicon. We saw this with the Liberty, yeah they took it out there and they said it crossed it; but it wasn't without significant drama.

3:Jeeps are for folks who want the capability. Daimler already has the Durango and the ML for curb hopping.

4:Can't argue with your last point.

I wonder just how Rubicon-worthy this new GC really is. It's probably possiible to achieve good off-road performance with an IFS, but obviously it would take quite a bit of work.

I'm with bren on this one -- I'd rather see the Durango stick to the comfort, and the Jeep to the rock crawling. But business is business, I guess.

I'm sure it's nice, but I'm looking for something cheap (10-15K tops). It will have to be a 2001 base Laredo, or a 2001 base Pathfinder if I manage to find one that is cheap enough. But I haven't ruled out wagons yet.

EDIT: If I ever were to spend 25K+ on an SUV, I'd buy the newest Land Cruiser I could get.

Personally, I think the STS article was more interesting then the Jeep article. The Jeep does nothing for me . . .

Used Foresters are going for under 20K.

Used Foresters are going for under 20K.

They are on the extended list.

-2001+ Laredo
-2001+ Pathfinder
-Used Legacy/Outback/Forester
-1998+ Volvo V70 AWD/XC

There are other alternatives, but those are the focus.
