I know there’s a thread elsewhere but I’m starting a new one, because look at this crazy brochure they were giving away at the dealer!

It is very comprehensive.

Anyone driven one yet? Why am I torturing myself?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180622/ee34d56270545f7a1c811d2192f925a8.heic

I would but the local dealers don't have any. Or didn't when I looked last. Store down the road is awash in Panameras, though.

Ha ha yeah. But the spec sheet for it looks pretty compelling. I don't think anyone on this board would buy any other 911, at this point, short of a GT3.

Just curious how the turbo engine feels.

"You should get the carbon fiber seats, because you should be uncomfortable."

Would be tough decision for me since they are expensive and you lose the rear seats. Standard sport seats look pretty good with the contrasting stitching like the yellow one in the video.

I think it makes a real difference if it's a weekend car or a DD. Definitely real seats for the DD.

You also don't get heaters in the CF seats, right?

I'd spec them if I was going to track the car. They are fucking amazing for that. For daily work? They don't make any sense.

It also annoys me one of the reasons for the compromised rear engine placement is for the rear the seats. If no rear seats then they should move the engine forward or wait they already did...

Everytime I think about a 911, I always come to the conclusion that I would much rather have this:

and $50k in my pocket.

I am in the minority, but I don't lust after a 911. I think they're cool and I wouldn't mind owning one, but it is not a car that is on my aspire to have one day list. The e39 M5 was on that list. The e36 m3c was as well when I was young. F cars were at the top of the list for a long time, but I've lost interest in them once they gave up on the gated shifter.

Right now, the list is one car long and it is AMV8 'verts with 6sp manuals. Well, I guess you can throw the E63 wagon on the list too, but that is for different reasons.

Terrible. Also, they look better than they drive.

I've researched that they aren't *too* bad for reliability. I believe the engines are Mercedes AMG sourced. A couple people had N54 e60s and said they were worse than the AMV8 as a reference. Granted, that is a very low bar, but one that many of us can relate to.

As far as driving, I don't think they can hold a candle to Porsches in true dynamics, but they are so damn pretty and sound so damn good, that I can convince myself to give away a few tenths of a second for style points. (Having said that, I've yet to drive one, so my dreams may come tumbling down when reality hits).

I have driven a coupe. It was slower than expected and weirdly cheap in unexpected areas. Some things were nice, but I came away liking it rather than loving it.

Of course, after $100k in depreciation, they are a much more interesting proposition.

I think it’s subjective.

But yes, drive one. I think the v8 is too cammy for my liking, but it does cool. Nothing sounds better than a v8 usually.

Jeff can weigh in here, but I almost ‘never’ use more than 50% of the 996tt’s engine power. It’s just too much. And it’s damn near 20 years old. The new Turbos make this even worse.

Which is the appeal of the 911 T. It has enough power now so you don’t actually feel regret that you didn’t buy the S model.

I wouldn’t get it for a few reasons ... one of them being I do not like the 18 way seats and there is no way I’m getting those carbon fiber seats ... I am not a fan of the pull strap door handles and the pricing is not too far off from an ‘S’ . I priced one up with the rear axle steering these guys say you should have brings the price to $121k

I then priced a Carrera S with the sport package which includes the rear axle steering and I’m coming up with around $126k plus I get a rear defroster :D

Btw the cup holder placement they showed in the video really sucks, I once had a fast food soda(sprite) sitting in that cup holder and when I picked up the cup it was weak and the plastic top came off sending soda alll over and literally flooding the hvac controls. No matter what I did I could not get the sticky buttons to stop being sticky.

Finally gave in with the intentions of paying $1500 for new hvac controls and the dealer covered it under warranty !! I was shocked and ecstatic at the same time.

Did they go to Mercedes engines for the later ones? I know the early ones were punched out Jaguar V8s, but maybe the 4.7s were different.

Ok basically the engine and transmission are from the base 911 but the gearing is shorter ... are there other differences that would make this car feel like a NA car ?

I watched the video a few days ago and being so ADD I don’t see why I wouldn’t get a base over the T ... not that I’m getting either one because I am waiting for the 992 but I’m just saying

Amazing. Looks fun doesn’t it?

The only thing I’d say is: it’s that much fun to drive a 987 on a backroad. Maybe more so.

But if you’re a 911 person (I am), the 911 T looks terrific.

It's not really that bad, the cost of my 550i & A6 in the past 4 years (2 yr leases each) is equal to the depreciation of the 911 I've had for 6 years.

Unless you buy it new and then sell it in 2 years the depreciation isn't horrible.

With that said the smart move is to buy a 2 to 3 year old one, no doubt you lose a let less money.

Say you buy a car for $100k. You bought at a good discount off msrp so you're able to sell it 2 years later for $80k, and you lost $20k. But in NY you also paid $8,800 in tax bumping the cost of ownership up to $29k. That's a 50% increase in cost of ownership. It's ridiculous.

Yup... NJ used to be 6%, then 7 for a long time, now back down to 6.625%, still too much. For me, with my frequent switches, this has been a big hit.

NY and NYC's taxes are so out of control.... 8.875% It adds like a 1$ to breakfast and more than a 1$ to most lunches.

Not sure which part you're pointing to as double taxation. :dunno:

Some states only charge buyers tax based on the difference between trade and new (to buyer) purchase. I think the reasoning is that they paid tax on the original vehicle with the argument that it should only apply at the dealer, as opposed to parlaying proceeds from a private sale to another vehicle purchase, is that the state can easily verify the transactions and their dollar amounts at dealerships and not in private sales. Definitely a benefit to the dealer, but how did they do it? Dealerships spend a lot on lobbying at the state and local level.
