looking at:

2014-16 E class
2016-17 328d (or not) wagon

thinking about:
Buick Regal 2018

is there anything I'm missing? as per usual, power to weight ratio is probably more important than fuel efficiency.

Mercedes makes a wagon with a manual now?

It's probably too small, but I've been seeing the new v60 everywhere lately, and I'm starting to really dig it. :eeps:

Do they make a polestar version of those?

The V90 looks the business and can apparently be ordered in non-Cross Country form. https://jalopnik.com/you-can-only-buy-a-non-lifted-volvo-v90-wagon-in-the-u-1790937348

But you should really buy the Panamera wagon.

I'm intently interested in this thread, but have nothing to add. Check out the E class, both Volvo wagons and the f31 and report back please.

Something tells me the Panamera won't have much usable room in the back and the buick will nanny you to death.

Edit, I found something to add.. a lease takeover from the the Fest on a nice looking 328d

That is really awesome. Pricey (and big) but awesome.

As you know, I love wagons, but until they offer a hi-po wagon with a stick, I'm going to get a sedan. We have the LR4 (over 4 years now!) and we love it, so there is no need for the extra utility at the expense of getting the desired vehicle.

My spouse has been bitten by the Porsche bug, and has been talking lately about Panameras...But at those prices, it ain't gonna happen.

The 328d is surprisingly pleasant, but I can't imagine that you'd be able to stand the sluggishness. Or the steering.

The seller reports the 6-speeed manual transmission had a weak second gear synchro, and so he had it rebuilt earlier this year by Tick Performance to Level 2 TR6060 spec. The seller inspected the clutch while the gearbox was removed and found that it had more than 50% life remaining.

Seems like it would've been a no-brainer to replace the clutch and PP, as long as you have the transmission out of there. Unless the replacement for that config is overly expensive. Or if you knew that you'd be selling it...

Exactly my thought on the clutch. If you're in there, replace it.

i had given this some thought. yes.

thanks for the V90 information.

the Panamera variant is the best looking Panamera, is it not?

the Panamera variant is the best looking Panamera, is it not?

Easily. The updated sedan is a huge improvement over the original, but the wagon still blows it away.

If in many years it turns out these things don't hold their value, I'll consider one for sure.

Just built one--for $146,000. Ack! Makes our X5 50i look like a bargain.

Well. Sure. None of us thought it would be affordable.

Probably depreciate like a rock though.

I don't know about the Panamera wagons, but the hatchback ones are only 2 across in the back seat. I'd think that's a non-starter for most wagon shopping families.

I hate to suggest, but the 3 GT or 4 Gran Coupe?

Aside from no manual in USA, I did not hate the lowered/rims 4 Gran Coupe I saw waiting for the bus a week or so ago... I might even consider one if prices fall even more off a cliff for a "new" BMW.

Buick gave us a Regal for an extended test drive (24 hours) 2 years ago. I really liked the way the car drove (it was fully loaded, awd) but the wife liked the awd Fusion better, and it was to be her car.

Looking forward to seeing the Regal wagon in person.

Well, that's a bummer. Not that we could ever afford one anyway. We'll just wait for the 3 series wagon to get that big.

I am pretty sure the wagon offers a 3 across option. Go buy one:D

Edit: looks like standard on wagon but must be pretty bad since + 1 :)

That's nice.

The "Stiff ride, noisy cabin, overstressed engine." sounded less nice.

They called it a "mid-sized" wagon. Mid size? That thing is like an old Cadillac, just needs some fins.

My parents and I had Volvos in the 850 era (right before the change over to V70/S70). The engines always felt stressed (5 cylinder?). The ride was harsh, but still had a upscale feel to the cabin. In later years, spouse and I have tried the various Volvo suvs and always found them very laggy to drive.

sounds very stressed (the engine) in the new v90.

what they are asking for, in that review, is what the e61 has --more cylinders and less boost.

(sigh)
