1. Volkswagen Golf R - 3947
2. Mazda MX-5 Miata - 8732
3. BMW 3-Series - 63,718
4. Alfa Romeo 4C - 457
5. Ford Fiesta - 45,035
6. BMW i3 - 6834
7. Porsche Boxster & Cayman - 5887
8. Chevrolet SS - 2919
9. Mini Cooper - 35,603
10. Nissan GT-R - 652
11. Dodge Viper - 571
12. Toyota 86 / Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ - 10,827

I was happy to see the BMW comment. I hope they get the message.

Surprised to see this car on the list? So are we, but the numbers don't lie. The 3-Series is a great-driving German sports sedan for people who want a dose of fun and everyday driveability in their lives. However, BMW sold almost 30-percent less 3-Series cars this year than last. It seems people are going elsewhere for their sporty daily drivers.

That's a surprising number of i3 sales.

In its last year of production the E46 sold 120,000 units in the US alone. F30 sales spiked in 2014 with 142k but have nosedived since then despite selling a lot more variants than in years past.

6,000 sales is actually pretty good for the Boxster / Cayman.

I'm not so sure this tells a real story about BMW. The likely truth is that they have simply spread their sales among many more models. Sales as a brand would be more of a true comparison YOY.

This is most certainly the case.

Is the 4-series still counted in that number?

That is exactly what I was thinking ... you would need the figures for the 4 series to really figure out how well or not it is selling when compared to the prior models.

It sucks that no cool cars are selling well. I guess no one buys any cars... only CUV/SUV/trucks.

YOY sales comparison of all the models would be interesting to see.

Fil posted the BMW stuff recently, and IIRC, only the x3 was up.

edit for chart added below:
...and the x1, and the 7, and the 2, and a couple of mini's. :D

110281 vs 140623 for 2,3, and 4 series, down 21%

Why add the 2?

I think the 2 qualifies here

The 2 is the "old" 3. Though, people must be buying something else, seems like that's not it....

Given how few Golf Rs they seem to be selling, I'm even more enraged at how fucking hard it is to drive one. Or even sit inside one.

It's the same here in Marin. I mean the dealership sits right next to Audi and Mercedes and they won't let you sit in a 36k golf. SUPER stupid.

Sounds like you guys have hit on the reason sales are so slow. Maybe someone should shoot VW a heads-up. :)

Are they selling a lot less than they're making though?

Are they even producing them? When I was looking there were none in the dealerships. Well, there were one or two but they were already sold.

And maybe that's why they won't let anyone sit in them. The ones at the dealers are already sold.

cargurus shows 88 available within 100 miles of me. :dunno:
(including 13 at a dealer in Dulles, 11 in Springfield, and another 8 in Gaithersburg)

They make them in batches, I think (at least, that's what they did with the old ones).

The '17s just came out.

When I went the first time, there was plenty of inventory. None were sold, as far as I could tell. The salesmen were also giant assholes.

Assholeness aside, it seems they sold all they made. :dunno:

They only made 4K of them?

That's less than they've made of previous years.

If they didn't sell they just be out there somewhere right? Assuming so maybe now they'd give test drives, even to shady characters like you.

According to Bren, there are 88 of them around here.

So, yeah, you'd think they'd give test drives. But they are assholes, so they aren't.

If they can sell the cars while maintaining their asshole quotient, good for them!
