General Motors has received a second lithium-ion test battery for use in its Volt range-extended electric vehicle, the automaker announced at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Anaheim, California. The most recent battery was sourced from LG Chem and Compact Power, but A123Systems and Continental AG are also supplying lithium-ion batteries for the project. [...]

You know, I don't really find these hybrids, plug-in cars, or other econoboxes all that sexy or interesting but I'm glad nonetheless to se GM getting in on this after seeing Toyota and Honda run so far out in the lead.
Yeah, yeah, I know, the Prius and what not are more PR than anything else but it still gave the impression that the domestic automakers were snoozing in this area.
I may never get a Volt but for many commuters out there it'd probably be a great, economic commuting car. For that, I give GM some kudos right now.
I just hope they follow through and bring something to market that works very well in the efficiency department.
I hope to get a volt or something similar for the commute in the not so distant future. 0 oil use? That's quite a contribution to national security. Of course the generation of the power will have to come from somewhere and I am hoping the raw materials for producing the power won't be something we have to buy from other places, but right now it's the best game in town for reducing foreign oil dependence and changing our foreign policy interests.
