Anyone watch Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans? http://www.sho.com/sho/reality-docs/titles/3425202/steve-mcqueen-the-man-and-le-mans?s_cid=pse-docs-2878

It's a documentary on Showtime partly about McQueen and mostly about the making of the move Le Mans. It's quite something...and much, much better than the movie itself.

I missed the beginning, but thought it was really good.

I had to Wiki him after watching, didn't realize it was mesothelioma that did him in.

Yep.

Classic case. He worked one summer in a shipyard.

What I remember about that movie was in a racing book. They wanted the shots of the feet working the pedals. So they removed the body work of one of the cars and had Phil Hill sit in the car and make like he was driving a lap. Some one noticed that it looked like he was really driving a lap, so they put up a side by side of the two pieces of film, Phil Hill actually driving a lap, and Phil Hill's feet simulating a lap. He was less than 1 second off the pace of a real lap, when he was simulating.
