I just looked it up... The Max 360. It looks really nice.

Personally, I thought V1 was dead from the time Escort put GPS in their devices, but this should be the last nail in their coffin.

On the Radar detector topic: I get a lot of false alarms now in K band from GM and Acura blind spot detection. Has anyone found a work around/software update to minimize that?

seems like something you could email ESCORT and they could alter in their algorithm?

Could they have made the arrows smaller? I'd like them to be really hard to see while glancing at the device. :?

Not sure this new Escort is going to hurt V1 much when its priced at $650 compared to $400 for the V1.

I never thought the arrows really added much, but it was the only thing the V1 had over the Escort line. Not real wild about the current Escort products at their price points, though.

The new Passport ($350) that replaces the 9500ix offloads GPS to your phone, which means you get the GPS goodness if you don't have their app on (which would mean no Waze). So, it's close to useless.

The Passport Max ($550) is the more comparable successor to the 9500ix with onboard GPS and flashy graphics and a price point way high for what you get compared to picking up a remaining or refurb 9500ix in the $250-$350 range depending on where and when.

The Passport Max 2 ($600) is the same thing, but with bluetooth to connect to their lousy app.

The Max 360 at $650 adds arrows. Woohoo. :celebrat:

I currently travel a route daily where the police leave their radar on. If I didn't, I'm no longer sure I'd have a use for a radar detector. Most of the time it only tells you when you just got nailed. Or is falsing due to the blind spot hardware on other vehicles.

I pretty much rely on Waze at this point. Sure it has "false alarms" too, when a marked police activity is no longer there by the time you get to it. But there's nothing like knowing about the laser speed trap before you crest the hill. You can't get that with any detector.

And Waze adds far less noise pollution. My family has become increasingly intolerant of the beeps and buzzes of my detector. They'll only allow it on road trips.

Dashboard Waze integration is the killer app I'm waiting for.

I haven't used a radar detector in years. I had one in the ZHP, then we sold that and I never moved the V1 over to the Miata. But a few years before the sale of the ZHP I think my V1 stopped working well. I wasn't getting alerts from it the way I used to.

But by that point my driving habits had changed to the point I wasn't really needing to use the V1 anyways.

Now it's nice not having it.

I already have that...

A Tesla owner built the link below -- using the public Waze API. Its optimized for the Tesla browser (and pulls the car's GPS position to keep the map updated). Worked great for our last road trip.

Does it integrate with NAV?

Nope... When using it, I keep the Waze browser on top, and Nav below.

Would be nice if Tesla's maps had full Waze integration (all it has now is traffic speed colors, but no info on accidents or speed traps)...

You also don't really get warned of the speed traps if it's not integrated with the NAV.

I wonder if Apple will ever let Waze on to CarPlay.

Even if Apple lets Waze on CarPlay, will Google let Waze play? Google doesn't even let Waze play that well on Android Auto.

I just wish that Escorts had the build quality of the ValenineOne.

I'm happy with my Passport MAX, except for the flimsy, rattley case and the sticky cup mount that falls off the windshield anytime the car is parked in the hot sun.

My V1 is still working, and I use it together with Waze.

Will this Escort get me anything exciting enough to toss a still-functional V1?

Maybe I'm just lucky that nobody out here (highway patrol, county, local police, speed cams, etc) tickets unless you are going >10 over (except in a school zone -- then they'll get you for 1 over...). I don't worry about speed traps during my commute -- I basically never go more than 10 over (I mostly drive 5 over these days...).

I found the Waze Tesla thing helpful during a road trip -- with the proper zoom, I could get an indication if something was up ahead at least 5 miles out, which was great for me...

The tab that gets inserted into the 9500 is a bit thinner than the slot it goes into which used to cause some rattling. A small piece of masking tape on the tab solved it. (Took me way too long to think of it.)

Not that I'm comparing DC's climate to Houston's, but my sticky cup has fallen off twice. First time was about a year after initial placement. Second time was about a year later. I also have it mounted on the black dots area at the top of my windshield that gives regular suction cups fits. Might there be some kind of coating on the glass that exaggerates the heat effect or reduces that cup's grip?

It will give you GPS and a fancy display. If you're happy with what you have, I doubt there's anything compelling enough to change,

you and TD are the ones who convinced me to stop mounting a radar detector and to try driving with just Waze. mostly, it works well.

doesn't mean i'm not closed off to a new idea, though.

TD and I are the ones that convinced you to stop running a radar detector and rely solely on Waze?

That's interesting since we're the two that have consistently said using both is better (although it sounds like TD may now be moving towards Waze only).

I'm also noticing a bit of a pattern of you doing the opposite on what I've done or suggested on multiple occasions. Probably not a bad plan.

Hardly "lemming" behavior, I might add.

For the record, I still run my Passport in my Golf pretty much every day. As I said in my post, my commute takes me on a road which is heavily policed by a force that leaves their Ka band on 24/7. That's a gift.

Laughing.

Sorry. You and TD being it up. He probably espoused just using Waze.

Anyway, I didn't even know what the App was until it came up here.

I sent my V1 off for the latest update which includes the above in May. FedEx lost it and therefore I purchased a new unit. No complaints... Far less false bogeys than perviously.
