But here’s something else to make you fall in love with it. It’ll get to highway speeds in 4.7 seconds, according to Ford, and will keep going all the way to 165 MPH.

A power washer will solve both problems.

I really want to see what this thing ends up costing. If the price is reasonable, it's a huge contender for replacing the iX.

Price also confirmed this morning. Starts at 35,730.

Options:

2785 for package with leather seats, nav, etc.

830 for power moonroof

1395 for forged wheels (1990 for forged wheels plus Cup 2 tires--jeezus)

Loaded up it's 42,375 before dumb dealer markup, but I'd probably stick with the regular wheels and save 1395--put that toward a set of winter tires.

40,980. Yes please.

EDIT: I can't tell how I feel about colors. The blue is not my favorite, but all the other colors (white, black, grey) are really boring. But the blue is an extra $700.

yeah that blue is a bit too much teal in it for me. Not sure what is with these ugly new blues, aka bmw yas marine blue, long beach, guess they are trying to be different. Guess the e46 had its smurf blue too.

edit: base model is plenty for me. The forged wheels with cup tires are tempting especially since I live where there are no seasons.

it could use that, RS is a bit 2F2R for me at my older age. I would feel a bit silly driving it around, like a wrx or evo.

No, I don't think so. IIRC, the NAIAS show cars were painted the same shade of blue as the Ford GT and Raptor, which was not intended to be a production color for any of those cars (sadly).

I'd skip the sunroof. Torn on the RS2 package, so I could well be at the base price.

I've said I don't want on for a lot of reasons, but I'm wanting one more than I was. At similar money, I'm not sure if I want a Mustang GT more or less.

The problem with the Mustang GT (other than the fact that it doesn't have enough doors) is that I'd always, ALWAYS be kicking myself for not getting a Shelby. Every time I got into it I'd think, "eh, this is nice...for the amount I was willing to spend."

This one demands no such compromise.

Hello, inflation.

Agreed. All cars are stupid expensive.

Frankly, GTI is a pretty damn good bang for your buck, all things considered. I hear the R is great, but most people say the GTI is most of the way there for several $k less.

Hum. This would be a killer Mazdaspeed3 replacement. Marisa loves that car and in general I agree but I hate the FWD-ness of it.

I worry about having a Ford in the stable for something that will be a long-term ownership proposition, but the other car on the list for consideration is a GTI, so... :dunno:

I would think there will be a huge disparity in resale between a small volume RS model (especially as hotted up as this one is) and a dime/dozen Mustang GT. While purchase prices may be similar, total ownership costs would be waaaayyy in the RS's favor.

Three wheeled cornering is fine. When it's the inside front lifting.

Use the FoRS, these are not the Foci you're looking for.

Seriously. I had a Focus S when the FoST was in once and my wife had an SE for nearly a month when her car was being rebuilt the second time. My opinions of it are the same as yours. They're awful.

The FoST is not awful. I understand the Titanium is also not awful (at least to some people, but I have never been in or driven one myself). Dunno about the Electric. I suspect the RS will be fine and the biggest dings will be a few cheap looking plastic interior bits and panel gaps because those are the only things you can really knock the ST on.

I test drove a Focus SE w/ the manual about a week or so ago. If the one I drove was any indication, the non-ST/RS models are very underwhelming. Not horribly bad, just underwhelming. And they are said to compete well against the VW Golf (perhaps not matched but compete well against it).

The thing with the Focus is that from the SE, SEL, and Titanium trims you get the same engine. I was hoping the manual would at least let me wind the engine out and make the most of it but there didn't seem to be much zip there. The Titaniums get a slight suspension tweak but I think it's minimal. Everything else is just more or less gewgaws that don't make the car perform better as a car.

Near as I could figure it:

Take an NC Miata
Remove 7 hp
Add only 6 ft-lb of torque but keep the peak rpm basically the same
Send powder to the front wheels
Then make everything feel mushy in comparison.

That's your regular Focus.

I figured going in I'd have to readjust my expectations but the Focus surprised me at how underwhelmed I was at it.

Why do you need three wheels to corner?
