I just took mine off last week. Did I win the contest for laziest wheel/tire changer?

And the worst part is: I only changed them because I had to have the car inspected and they were so bald it wouldn't have passed with them.

And while changing them, I dropped a tire and it hit the painted plastic side trim along the bottom of the car and ripped it off. FAIL. It's mostly back on but one clip is broken so now it sorta flaps a bit. Sigh.

Time to revoke my mudgeons card.

I've never changed my tires because of a season change. Does that make me more lazy?

Sounds about right for a day in my garage.

Yep. I think I've successfully avoided talking about the time I ran my car into our patio table trying to do a snow tire change. Fortunately the scratches are sort of subtle.

Or cheap, in our case.

There was the day when I R&R'd a transmission three times because apparently I really didn't want to install a throwout bearing...

I think the longest I went was June. By then, I was sick enough of the squishy ride to finally pull the all-seasons and jackstands up from my basement. Or, I was sick of studying, which may have been the bigger deciding factor at the time.

Team WTF?! rides again!

Less than two weeks after swapping on my ContiSport II's, I hit something and cut a sidewall :banghead:

Bonus WTF?! points for the car rolling off the BMW jack while changing the tire. Luckily I had two lugs in hand tight already.

I couldn't have done this while the bald snows were still on? :dump:

Ugh. Did it happen someplace really hospitable like the FDR drive or the cross-bronx?

It was up higher in Westchester, but not in a good spot. Luckly I was able to pull off to the correct side so I wasn't out in traffic while changing it.

Well, it's time for me to put snow tires back on again.

Anyone have first hand experience with either of these? I guess the continental is new so there's no info yet.

As I've said elsewhere, Dunlop Wntersport 4D for me last year. Super cheap, quiet and comfy ride, and decent performance. I liked em so much last winter, I put them back on today.

Hopefully, it won't get warm again, but oh well. I got tired of running the compressor every morning to refill the right rear to 35psi so it would still have 15 the next morning. These are Hankooks RS3v1s that are past dead. The OE GYs are on wheels that need to be rebalanced and I'm too lazy.

i tought about having the leaky tire repaired, but again, lazy...and now that I've taken it off, I'm not sure it could have been repaired. Not sure what the problem is...the nail in the tread near the shoulder, the staple not too far from the nail, the staple not too far from the other staple, the staple a little further away, the screw on the other side, or what might be some cord.

I saw a test somewhere, R&T maybe C&D, I don't remember, but IIRC those two tires were towards the bottom below some Vredsein and a Michelin and a couple others. Pretty helpful huh?

Tire rack shows they come in only 9 sizes, none of which being the one I need. Huh.

What size is that? And what's the wheel size?

225/45/17

225/50-17 should be fine. Indicated 60 would really be 62,but other than that...

They have the 4d in 225/45-17 as a runflat. :dunno:

I wouldn't go 225/50/17 on an e46 non-M, but that's me. I don't like the idea of raising the whole car a whole 0.5" and getting taller gearing. You can do 225/45/17, 205/50/17, those two are just about right on total diameter.

Where do you get a half inch increase in ride height? 245/45-17 diameter is 25.7" and 225/25-17 is 25.9" which makes for 0.1" ride height change.

Gearing difference is real, but probably insignificant in a real world street application like matt's...the guy that ran his last set of snows into late August. ;)

Stock is 245/40. So that's why your math is off. :p
