I wasn't sure and I did put a feeler on pca a few months back. The response (@msrp) was so overwhelming that I realized even with a large tax bill I have limited downside if any. First time I've specced and built a car.

A little worrying that they ship the car without the front lip, perhaps it wouldn't have made it off the truck.

So when do you pick it up? Today? And are you taking an immediate road trip? Maybe to DC? Weather here is going to be nice this weekend.

Quick thoughts. Consider that car has only 199 miles and I have not gone above 5500 rpm.

- The spec is perfect. I built it, it should be, but you know me. Fortunately there is nary an option I'm second guessing. Very happy with the color.
- Cabin is very luxurious, most ever for any car I've had. Full leather with silver stitching and the 18-way seats are wonderful. Porsche alcantara is good too...

- The car is VERY civilized. The ride is beautiful. Picked up in Manhattan, driven to CT and then back to NY/NJ, I don't think I felt harshness all day. Best suspension I've ever owned or test driven. I think Sports PASM and the cayman R/spyder come close.
- Sound. Only when on it, otherwise rather quiet (guess I'm used to the Dinan muffled m3).
- Shifter/clutch. SS is standard, I did put in 3 for 1 and 4 for 2 and the car barely complained. Clutch feels meatier and engages lower than the 981/987.2.

- The engine. It's clearly very strong. Party starts at around 4k. Manual says 4.2k limit. I don't think I can abide, but I didn't see the proper party yet either. Say some pulls from 4 to 6.5 or 7k. That's partly my moderate break-in (not as gentle as owner's manual, but not motoman/stole-it style either).

A little underwhelmed by:
- Almost too capable. I did get a certain digital/simulation feel about the speed that I found upsetting. I think it may have to do with the incredible level of refinement that they have achieved.
- Gearing. Not really as in slowing the car down, but as I said, the "party" is 4k rpm onwards. Those are seriously high speeds for the street.
- Exhaust. It's good but I'm not sure it's great. I test drove S & GTS's and never liked PSE much on them either.
- Steering. A bit heavier than I expected. Honestly, I feel that the electric rack that most evo/porsche etc. reviewers have come to terms with lacking compared to 987/997's. Perhaps if I really start pushing the car, I'd find some feel there, but at 4/10's there's just precision and weight (fortunately not strangely weighted like Audi's). The 996/987/997 hydraulic rack fed the senses better at lower speeds.

It is a great car to drive hundreds of miles to a track, arrive as refreshed as if you've traveled in bmw/audi's finest and then kick ass on the track. For a 100 to 200-mi backroad jaunt, I found it a bit lacking. I know I sound like an idiot, but I'm a touch disappointed. Almost like a Top Gear comment, "It's so perfect, it's a bit underwhelming", but that's pretty much it. I'm not wildly excited by it driving on the street or on back roads. That said, it doesn't beat you up in that environment by any measure.

I think the similar would apply to any 981/991 generation car. The cabins are phenomenally better. The drive is smooth. But, honestly, at lower speeds, 987's are more fun. Perhaps my memory is colored and playing tricks. I have been riding motorcycles for the last five years now, so that makes most cars feel like a comfy sofa in a quiet den. Honestly, though there is detachment in this car, perhaps due to the fancy engine/transmission mounts.

I'm going to go drive some more today... Day of delivery is full of energy and nerves and crazy expectations. It's too soon to say anything especially before break-in is over.

Sounds awesome.
I have a friend who has one coming. Actually - I have two friends who each are getting GT4's. One of them actually is getting two cars. He's going to keep one and sell the second. I am afraid to ask what he is looking at ($$) for that one.

Had a much less emotionally-confused day 2.

Put on another 185 miles... What a wonderful car. It's going to be hard to keep the miles low and that's always a good sign.

I've never driven a gt2/gt3/turbo or any kind of proper Italian exotic. That said, I have good seat time in Audi RS's, BMW M's (except latest), Evora & Vantage and plenty of Porsches. Among these, this is the best driving car. In almost any condition. Best chassis by far.

Engine felt better too. I was a little more liberal with the rev's (self imposed limit of 5.5k) and even around half-throttle through the mid-range, this little croc takes off like nobody's business. First truly fast cayman that I've driven (the rest base/S/GTS are enjoyable, but merely quick).

Yes, the steering could have a touch more feel, but such is life with electric assist. It's also a "different" feel. The assist curve is different from hydraulic.

I think purchase day required a certain numbness - necessary to drop that kind of coin.

Another datum:

According to the trip computer, in the 36hr time span from Saturday noon pick up to Sunday midnight, I drove 11 hours. That's pretty much what I did all weekend, simply driving around in a new gt4. I highly recommend it. :)

I agree that neither Sapphire Blue nor the yellow work. We've always had similar tastes... A nice 987.2S Boxster is a very good place to be in as well.

I didn't shoot any interior pics, but that's among my favorite things about this car. The full leather on the dash and door tops, silver stitching throughout. Leather on steering wheel and shift knob... Great spec (pats self on back). Also the regular interior trim, real brushed alum is great too and ties in nicely. No needed for painted interior bits in this car. Just a bit of leather and stitching on the alcantara that you sit on (that is not changeable).

Least favorite: Everyone, that is every male, pulls up and wants to race. That rear wing is like a raised middle finger to the collective masculine identity.

You obviously need an Atom to deal with that.

You know the strip of stores along 440, bounded by the Duncan Donuts to the north and the Taco Bell to the south? There's a regular gather of "The Fast and The Spurious" in one of those lots (they think they're avoiding the mall cops). These are white kids with coffee can mufflers, silly wings, and something written in Japanese above the AS1 line on the windshield. Which sort of proves they're wimps if they won't tint below that.

Some years ago, I drove the Atom down to the Taco Bell drive-through after midnight (I had been working on it, so it was already out of the garage). I pull over past the drive-thru to eat my tacos in peace, but there's a lot of yelling from the TFaTS crowd on the other side of the parking lot, so I drive over there. After the usual "how fast" and "how much" questions, the head TFaTS-er asks me "does it come with an automatic, 'cause I can't drive a stick?"
