View Full Version : Porsche GT3 RS
My son & I saw one today @ the local dealer. It had just come in and obviously it had not been PDI'ed.
BTW, MSRP was $145k

Sigh, another poseur special.
I think the original buyers will be sorely disappointed that loaded RS' will not command a premium over the stripper ones.

What are you talking about. . . it looks like it comes pre-tapped off for racing! http://www.links4jeeps.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_driving.gif

Most RS' fell into the hands of the speculators who loaded them up with NAV, premium sound, CF, full leather, heated seats, etc, and etc, and etc.
They will be sadly mistaken when they try to make a profit in the second hand market in a few years.
And then there's a fact that you are the laughing stock of everyone at the track when you show up with your RS with NAV, leather, heated seats, premium sound, blah blah.
Might as well have a sunroof while you are at it and just pay the paint to sample fee for a regular GT3.

still cooler than the 997TT and likely cheaper, too, when it's all tabulated with the same options car versus car.
It's a really cool car. But it's only hot because it's the latest and greatest. Prodcution is almost over and soon Porsche will likely make some changes to keep up with GT racing. 3.8L bump, etc. The 997 is supposed to get a facelift by '09. What if a facelifted RS with a 3.8L engine comes out? Those cars could get hit hard - especially clowns paying tens of thousands over MSRP.

How can you tell from this pic that this one has NAV, premium sound, CF, full leather, heated seats, etc, and etc, and etc?

From the 145K MSRP sticker. The car is as loaded as can be and with PCCB it would be about 135K. So it has at least $10K worth of "fluff." But I have seen worse. There have been cars with much higher stickers still.

I guess I'm a poseur, because although I wouldn't want NAV and couldn't care one way or the other about premium sound, I would definitely want the full leather. Even in a GT3. None of that stuff really adds any weight, so wh not make the drive to the track a little bit more pleasant?
I don't see why it's a big deal. If all that stuff added 100lb, then maybe...

Well, full leather is only a couple of K. And it doesn't add weight. The pricey stuff comes from options like deviated stitching (say orange stitching on black leather), selected painted interior surfaces to match, etc, etc. It's nice stuff to look at, but it is crazy-priced and you tend to get a fraction of it back on resale if any.
Many dealers simply checked all those boxes to maximize profits as the dealer markup on options is ~$15%. Tack on $20K worth of options and you just made yourself a cool $3K @MSRP - without any additional market markup on the car.

Right so... the dealers make out like gangbusters, the person who buys the car gets screwed a few years down the road when he tries to sell, and the person buying it used gets a decent deal. Sounds like the system is working as it should.

You've got no argument from me.:)

on 125k car, the extra 15k is sort of irrelevant, isn't it?

The alcantara/leather combo seats is more useful, if you are going to keep the seats stock and not pay the 4K per seat charge for the factory CF seats.

$$ is not the problem. The problem is what the RS is supposed to be.
If you want to have all the nicieties, then don't pretend, just get a regular GT3. It even comes with a nice, big hole on the roof standard and without the OTT stickers.
This is why loading up cars like the RS' makes no sense, since it will still ride like crap, be loud as shit, and even with the premium stereo, still not half as good as the Dynaudio package in the VW.

If he thinks it will hold value like an F car, think again.
There are less than 300 GT2's, and most are hovering between 100 to 120 depending on mileage.

I think the guy is a car investor:eeps: buys the latest greatest first then resales it while it is hot. He had a m5 when they first came out and doesnt have it anymore, dont think he holds them for long.
I watched him pull the gt3 rs out of his driveway and bottom out the front spoiler, he got out and had to inspected it:D he pulled out carefully too

Man loses Ferrari CS and Porsche GT3 RS in California wildfire (http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/10/26/guy-loses-ferrari-cs-and-porsche-gt3-rs-in-california-wildfire/)
only thing left was the muffler? (Ferrari)

That proves the CS was entirely made of carbon fiber and aluminum, except for the muffler of course...
