Hey everyone ...
I have a nice floor Jack but it's gotta be at least 12 years old and it showing its age ... The wheels are jamming up, the Jack needs a lot of help as it just doesn't work that well anymore.

I've been researching floor jacks and there are way too many choices ... I am looking for a good quality, good performing Jack that I can use on sports cars. (Low clearance) as well as the few times it might need to raise an suv.

The choices are insane ... if you any have recommendations I would really appreciate it.

My "same answer as always" is AC Hydraulics DK13HLQ (http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_ACHyd1-detail.htm). They stopped importing them for a while due to Harbor Fright selling jacks for less than 1/10th the price, but you might be lucky and find a used one on Craigslist or similar. If not, Pelican Parts (link above) has it for $549. In the "old days" the manufacturer (http://www.ac-hydraulic.dk/en/) in Denmark would send out free seal refurb kits if you contacted them. Not sure if that is still the case. If not, Pelican has all of the parts here (http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_ACHyd1_pg6.htm).

Note that this is not a track jack - it weighs a ton. You'd be better off with a lightweight Craftsman or similar for that application.

Terry I really appreciate the advice but $500 plus is too much for me to spend for a Jack ... I'm thinks less then 1/2 (or less then that is better :) but
Thanks !!

I bought this one a couple of years ago. It's bigger and beefier than most of the "aluminum racing jacks" sold by HF or similar, but it's basically the same design. Made in China.

I've been happy with it.

Arcan Quick Rise Professional Service Jack — 3 1/2-Ton, Model# XL35
Item# 144236

You won't be happy trying to lift a large suv with a 2 ton "racing" jack.

Edit: almost forgot, word is that cosco sells a variation of the arcan. I'm not a member though, and haven't been able to get someone to check it out for me.

That's why I suggested checking Craigslist, etc. for a used one. When I started writing that reply, I didn't even know they were back in the US at Pelican.

There's also the DK20HLQ if the 2800-lb rating of the 13 isn't enough. The 20 is rated at 4400 lb. By the way, both of these support the T3 adapter which lets you put the jack on the centerline of the car and position a jack pad under each jacking point.

I had no problem lifting the Armada with the old style Sears aluminum 2 ton. Then again, that was the second one of those jacks I bought. The first one only lasted a couple years. That second one is still going 9 years on.

How can one live with a family in the suburbs and not be a Costco member? Even when the closest one to us was 10 miles away, we still made a monthly trip.

My Sears Craftsman 3-toner is still going strong after ~15 years. It's all steel, weighs a lot (~90 lb.?), and isn't low profile but it works well and ran me ~$100 or so. Came as a set with two jack stands.

:dunno:

If there are any trucks or SUVs in the picture "I" wouldn't feel comfortable with a 2T or 2 1/2T jack and would look to a 3T minimum.

Buying new I'd look for something that's low profile. As-is I need to drive my Miata on some 2x12 chunks of wood to get the car up enough to slip the jack under the sides.

All of this is why I like the look of the Arcan I posted.

I have had this jack (http://www.harborfreight.com/25-ton-aluminum-racing-floor-jack-with-rapidpump-62309.html) for 7 years. I love it. It's been used and abused just about weekly since I got it and aside from having to go Loctite some fasteners, it's been bulletproof. It gets thrown in the bed of the pickup to go to events and has never let me down. It can jack up the front of my 3/4 ton pickup with no issue.

I keep thinking it's going to quit and need replacement but has been going strong.

I fully admit the AC jacks are "better" but this one cost me $110 or $120 on sale. I can't justify something 4-5x the price for how good this has been.
