That's taken. But perhaps Equinox?

Coming in 2K9. Has turbo. Like a Corvette, except smaller and missing four cylinders.

Nice looking, probably a pain to see out of though, especially considering the hiked up rear.

The nice thing about a small roadster is the excellent visibility, at least part of the time :)

Right. I knew that sounded familiar.

How about "Vernal?"

Nah...

Just call it the "Winter Solstice"

Rebadge the original as the "Summer Solstice"

I like that line of thinking for marketing.

It's interesting to read they are planning to update the Solstice in 2011. It's way too early to speculate much but it'd be interesting to see what they do on the second generation.

Let's hope they fix everything wrong with the first generation:

Make a convertible top that can be stowed without using up all the available trunk space requiring the driver to get out of the car and unfasten clumsy clips.

Make it lighter by about 400lbs or so.

Find an engine that doesn't have the penis-limping prefix "eco" as in "eco-tech" attached to it.

Find a different plastics supplier for the interior than the one that seems to specialize in making the casings for 25 dollar boom boxes.

Perhaps using a 5 speed cog from a pick-up truck, the gauges from the Cobalt and switchgear from a lawn mower etc., wasn't such a great idea either.....

Cool looking car! Very cool. It's amazing the transformation when you take an existing convert, and "add" a hard top. I like it.

you're asking for too much.

the top design will get better, but only in a second generation car.

it's too expensive to make it lighter, so that won't happen.

the engine is fine as is. having driven it, it's not the worst 4 cylinder engine and has plenty of torque.

the plastics will probably get better, but realize they were on a tight budget to get the car even made, so they were conservative with production costs.

i don't really take issue with the 5sp unit because it's also fine and the switchgear is also comparable with its peer group and anything else in the sub 28k car market.

i think you need to aim your criticism at the corvette more than the solstice/sky. these cars face severe pricing issues. GM has to build them to make some money on them yet also so as to not price them out of their peer group like the S2000 pricing mistake. maybe honda can afford that sort of low level of production, but GM cannot.

and GM doesn't exactly have tons of motivation to address your issues on either the solstice/sky or the corvette as both plants run at full capacity. at least on the corvette you have the $4000 extended leather option.

Usually, the cheaper the car, the bigger break I give it in terms of material quality and such because . . . it's a cheaper car.

So, yeah, on a barely sub-$20k I'll over look the cheap-ish feeling dash and other thing. It would have been nice to nail those down from the get-go but oh well. And the $6k-ish premium on the GXP version of the Solstice? Hell, I'd rather that $6k be spend on better shocks/suspension setup, and the extra 80+ hp/ft-lb. in the engine.

What I won't overlook, though, are design and engineering issue such as the focked up top folding system, the fact that it eats up your truck space, and things like that.

Hmm...Camaro or Solstice Coupe?

Solo potential will probably determine the winner. ;)

Of course, I had a ride in a Shelby GT Monday night. Me likey.

i think being a former miata owner colors how much i hate the design of the solstice top.

i hate it enormously. it's one of my main objections to the car. buying something so ill-designed seems to me to reinforce that it's okay to buy stupid designs.

but the rest of the car? fine to me.

:+! Big Time!

I swear the Miata spoiled me in many little ways. I've had my Jeep now for 3 years and I STILL gripe about top incomparison to the Miata. And looking at the Solstice's top drives me nuts. At least the Jeep has the excuse of trying to fold up a boxy tent-sized canvas thingy
