Too bad the engine probably needs to be rebuild due to dry rot.
8000 miles in 10 years can't be good for the engine,
But man would I love a P car with some HP in that color, and orange, and froggie to go with the yellow.

why is this car so expensive again? Very first Turbo S or very first Turbo S built for Jerry Seinfled?

Back in the day, 911 Turbos were driven by old men (remember I had a tough time finding a speed yellow 993 Turbo that I eventually gave up?). So, it is very rare to see a nice bold color on them. That alone commands a premium.
Whether Jery Seinfeld commands additional premium, well, I don't watch Seinfeld since I don't find that abrasive NY thing funny.
But 993 Turbo S going rates are over 100K because of how rare they are. I just don't trust that engine to be any good.
Some guy in Ireland ordered paint to sample smurf blue on his 997 GT3, and it is teh hotness.
I'll have to check some photos, but Seinfeld may have had that car on display at the 1998 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance...
He had 2 cars on display that year, both Porsche 911's labeled "First" and "Last"... they represented the first and last year of production of the air-cooled 911s... Oh and Jerry was wandering around with his camera taking pictures of cars. He's one of us!
If so, that may explain part of the price premium...
Now... where did I put those pics I took back then?

I remember that car, but IIRC, it was a regular 993, not a TT, or TTS.

I thought so to, but for some reason have smurf blue in my mind as I remember back to Pebble that year (the first time I went).
I'll dig the pics out...

It was smurf blue for sure, but it was a NA 993, is what I meant. I remember seeing a picture somewhere - probably C&D.

the seals are gone on that car.
not that it would matter to the person buying that car (dude with a business to write the car off or a collector type). they'll address it and it'll be pricey.
given the way the current 997TT is going, this car's residuals will keep on keeping on.

Long term, when we have kids, this is what I am probably going to get. Since a two seater really won't be of much use for us.
A nice C2S. Light, no electronics, two useable back seats for kids for many years, and cheap(er).

I like everything but the wannabe turbo wing.

I like everything but the wannabe turbo wing.
I believe that is actually the factory aero kit option.
If you look at the vents on the top of the wing, you will see that it actually is different than the ones on the Turbo wing.

as beautiful as the 993 is.....it's still a siren calling you to the rocks.
driven back to back with even the (i hate) 996, the 996 is so much more compelling a driving car. the circa 993 M64 didn't have the RMS leakage, but it's still got the air intake buildup issue (thousands of dollars to fix properly), dry rot of the seals and a nice predisposition to overheat in LA standstill traffic.

I wouldn't mind a 996 GT3.
The problem is the lack of legal rear seats. The mounts are there, and they CAN be retrofitted. But:
1. You are carrying your little kids.
2. I hate to think what kind of insurnace nightmare one would be in if one was involved in an accident where heaven forbid, rear passenger claim is required.
There is currently no reliable and cheap way to convert the 996 Turbo into RWD with no PSM. There was a whole thread on 6 speed about people who simply removed the front drive.
I suppose I can inquire as to how much the GT2 harness, DME, front carrier assembly, and LSD costs. It simply cannot be cheap. But that would be the best way to solve the rear seats problem.
Some guy on rennlist did it for his ALMS, and again, that cannot possibly be cheap.
