BMW/service interval countdown

How far out can you get your service done for free these days? Inside 1,000 miles? 500?

It's been a while since I've done this...

I don't know about mileage, but I can tell you that if you get it done on a time elapsed basis it seems to depend on the SA's mood as to how early they'll take it.

I'm not sure if there is official guidance on this, but i just got my rear brakes replaced a few days before the warranty/maintenance expired. The service indicator showed 1500 miles (but it had been stuck on 1500 miles for at least 1000 miles, so I think it counts down to a certain point then waits for the brake sensor to wear through)
