View Full Version : Forgot to charge the car--stranded
This one takes longer to charge than the other.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/07/040638eec99b2caa36c4db43eae935bb.jpg
I guess I have to drive it more than once every 6 weeks.

They make this cool contraption called a "battery tender." They're cheap. You would do well to invest.
That's what is hooked up to it now.
 Well played!
Sorry about the strandage though.

I have 6 or 7 BatteryMinders (http://www.batteryminders.com/12-volt-maintenance-charger-desfulator-1500) hooked up to just about everything. I have one for one of my generators and mower.... and others for the boat and then one for the Mustang and another one for the E9 and..... :)
I have one on the Porsche too. I keep it hooked up through the cigarette lighter. Works great.

With 6 week layovers, how do you keep the mice out?
Your car came with a spare ?
No. It's from a 986. Got it from eBay.
So… have you ever had to use one of your aftermarket spares?
I had a bad leak in the Boxster that required replacing the tire -- but it held air well enough to top it up daily and drive on it for a few days while I waited for the new tire to arrive…
I've also had a slow leak on the Tesla that Discount Tire was able to patch (nail in the main tread)… Again, just topped up the tire before going to the tire store...
I used the one in the E90 M3. Fortunately haven't had to use any of the others.

I just sold one from a 986 on eBay which I used for the 997 and also just bought the spare for the 991 ...
Most flats are slow leaking though I had a flat on the 991 about 8 months ago and the pressure flew down FAST ! Luckily I was about 2 miles from my mothers house and I made it as the pressure hit 16psi ... It really sucks these cars don't come with spares.

So, the dude with the electric car gets stranded when his gas car is out of battery juice. I like the irony there. :)
I'm up to two dead BMWs. Wish it'd warm up so I would be willing to actually jump them. But as it is, they can sit.
Do you guys get a lot of rust out there? Just wondering if thats a concern about not driving these cars in the snow.
Yes. Rust, and people that can't drive or be bothered to realize that their tires are bald and worthless.

Sorry Bren, but this is not coast dependent

Of course not, but snow and ice greatly exacerbate the danger.
For me, it's a combination of having a two seat car that can't accomodate the kids, coupled with a stretch of cold, snowy, rainy weather. I don't especially want to drive it when it's cold/salty, not so much because of rust but because it's got Pilot Super Sports on it, which are not great in the cold.
Right, might as well have wooden tires at these temps.
Wooden tires, you say?

You need to check that sight often. Interesting stuff, and hilarious stuff posted daily
I know the guy selling this one. He is the front desk clerk at the independent BMW shop I take my car to. He replaced it with an 02 MZ3 coupe.
